Meeting of the Bözöd village

In my short holiday I went back to my grandparents' place called Bözöd and I was lucky enough to be there when the meeting of the village was. It is an event organized in every 5 years or so and all the people who have some connection with the village get together for a two days event. It is a very good community building event and lets people to reconnect with their old friends. This event is very important because in the past few years a lot of people went from the village to live in the towns and therefore the connection back just got lost.

For me this event was very special for several reason. For the first after living in Netherlands for one year I kind of forgot how hard life can be in Romania. So it was a very good awakening that even if things changed in Romania, life is still very hard, especially on the village.

This event also reminded me about the simplicity of life and how much we can complicate it. The people from the village have a much simple life and sometimes I miss that simplicity from my life.

I also was at the church at this event and managed to reconnect with my religion and to find again that peace in a church that is missing most of the time in our crazy life. Even if I do not go that often to the church, as it is hardly possible to find Unitarian churches in Netherlands/Singapore, I believe in God and I consider myself quite religious, though I never show this to people. I think most of the people would not consider me a religious person. At the end of the religious ceremony we sung the national anthem (Hungarian) and it was a very powerful moment for me, just strengthening my national identity. Living abroad makes you feel like loosing it and from time to time I need these moments when I feel that I belong to a nation.

There was also a nice ceremony with nice speeches and with some dances (see picture below).
At this ceremony my grandfather got the award of the oldest man of the village and was asked to have a speech. I was just shocked when he went up and had a speech there. I might be subjective maybe because he is my grandfather, but he had the best speech. In 5 minutes he made the people of the village cry, including myself. I was shocked and amazed and was just crying myself as well. He was speaking from his heart and to the people in a very simple and powerful language. And he has 92 years old. I am very proud of him. He is definitely one of the persons I admire the most. And when he finished his speech he gave also some interviews for the regional radio!!! He is soooo cool :):):)

In the evening we went for the traditional theatre play and dance evening with old village type of ball.

It was a long time ago when I went to this kind of balls, so it was very funny to be there again. My parents were as well and my brother with his wife, so we had a family party there :) You can see me dancing with my mom on the picture below :)

And of course a village meeting can't be without a soccer game so we played soccer as well :):):)
All in all it was great fun and a very good opportunity to reconnect with my village. I am really looking forward to participate in the next one as well. Somehow it makes me feel that Bözöd is my home, even if I live in other places.
